The ALTG aims to reduce the incidence, morbidity and mortality of lung and thoracic cancer and improve the quality of life of lung and thoracic cancer patients in Australia and New Zealand by coordinating and facilitating high-quality clinical research.
The ALTG collaborates with the CTC to conceive, design, initiate, conduct, analyse and report high-quality, multicentre studies.
International collaborations have been established with the National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Group and the Dutch Association of Physicians for Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis group.

The ALTG collaboration is supported by competitive infrastructure grants from Cancer Australia and the Clinical Trials Centre-Cancer Institute NSW Clinical Trials Partnership.
