Support for investigator-initiated trials in cancer
Clinical Trials Partnership ( New South Wales )
What is the Clinical Trials Partnership?
The partnership between the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) and the Cancer Institute NSW has been established to encourage the development of investigator-initiated cancer clinical trials by providing operational and statistical support. The partnership aims to establish and develop new cancer trials and collaborations in areas which are currently underrepresented by clinical research. The partnership will be used to build on existing expertise, strengths and resources to provide strong links with existing groups and partners.
What can the partnership do for you?
Applicants may request statistical support, operational support or both. The support available includes:
•
statistical support for an early proposal (e.g. sample size, analysis plans)
•
statistical review of a protocol leading to a report with recommendations
trial development including concept outlines, feasibility surveys, protocols, case report forms
•
operational support to plan conduct of the clinical trial (including initiation, coordination, data management, statistical support, monitoring)
•
operational support in part (e.g. randomisation).
The partnership provides an opportunity for investigators to develop clinical trial initiatives and will work in collaboration to seek funds for the conduct of the main study. Full trial funding is not available through the partnership.
Who can access the partnership?
Clinical trials supported through the program will include:
1.
Clinical trials being developed by individual researchers in collaboration with the NSW Oncology Group (NSWOG)
2.
Clinical trials developed by the NSW Cancer Trials Network in collaboration with the CTC, individual researchers and/or collaborative groups
3.
Clinical trials initiated by the CTC in partnership with and/or endorsed by NSW Cancer Trials Network
4.
Clinical trials initiated by national and international cooperative groups coordinated within Australia by the CTC and endorsed by the NSW Cancer Trials Network.
Proposals are encouraged for studies that are early in their development and require support with trial design, protocol development and trial initiation. If in doubt, feel free to contact Kathleen Scott or Angelina Catanzariti to discuss this further. We're happy to talk to all interested investigators.
