The
randomisation centre provides a randomisation service for trials run
by the CTC and for consulting clients.
It provides an access point for all randomisation calls for all trials.
The service caters for dynamic balanced randomisation, minimisation
and permuted blocks.
The CTC can provide randomisation via an interactive voice response
system (IVRS) 24 hours a day. It is available for both local and international
trials.
An operator-assisted randomisation service is also available daily
from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (24 hours a day for acute cardiovascular trials).

Randomisation
is allocation of therapy or treatment in a clinical study by
chance. It is a method used to eliminate biases (systematic
differences).
Before the allocation, neither subjects nor the investigators
are aware of precisely which treatment the subject will get.
Common methods of allocation are using tables of random numbers
or a random number generated on a computer.
Therefore, randomisation is scientifically managed chance.
