CTC Executive

The executive team ensures the continued development and progress of the clinical trials research program, and works closely with other CTC committees and senior academics and managers to achieve this.  

John-simes Professor John Simes

Professor John Simes MD, MBBS, MSc, FRACP is Senior Principal Research Fellow and Founding Director of the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, University of Sydney. He is a leading international researcher in clinical trials, particularly in cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and neonatal medicine. He currently serves on many national / international clinical trial and research committees, including cancer cooperative groups (COGNO, AGITG, ANZBCTG). He has played a lead role in many new clinical trial initiatives nationally and internationally. He is the inaugural Director of Sydney Catalyst Translational Cancer Research Centre (with over 400 researchers / clinician members). read more



Professor Anthony Keech 

Professor Anthony (Tony) Keech MD MBBS, MSc (epidemiology), FRACP, FCSANZ, FAAHMS, is one of Australia's leading clinical researchers, being an NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow, Professor of Medicine, Cardiology and Epidemiology and Deputy Director, NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre. He is an internationally known researcher in the field of cardiovascular clinical trials and a consultant cardiologist. He co-directs a team of more than 150 researchers, and has led numerous trials in cardiovascular disease and diabetes in particular, including the largest-ever longterm study (FIELD study) of Australians with T2DM across 63 centres world-wide, resulting in ground-breaking findings of benefits on retinopathy, amputations and renal disease with simple treatment and overseeing more than 30 complex sub-studies. He has established a postgraduate degree in clinical trials, and continues to teach students and postgraduates in medicine, public health and epidemiology. read more



Dr Wendy Hague

Dr Wendy Hague MD, MBBS, is the CTC's Clinical Trials Program Director. She is responsible for the successful conduct of the CTC's large-scale, multicentre clinical trials and ensuring that trials systems, procedures and methods are of the highest standard. Wendy is also responsible for the CTC's information management. She has medical qualifications, an MBA, and a PhD in clinical trials methodology. Her research interests include recruitment, treatment adherence and operation of clinical trials. read more

Dr Vera Terry

Dr Vera Terry BSc(Hons), PhD, LLB, GradDip, LP, MIP, MBA, GAICD is a member of the executive and is the CTC's Business Director. She oversees new research contracts and grants, business services support, and building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships nationally and internationally with representatives from governments, collaborative groups, pharmaceutical companies, and funding providers. She has a wide range of strategic experience in the tertiary education sector including 13 years with the Faculty of Medicine. She has a background in science, law, business administration and industrial property. read more
