The
NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, a clinical research organisation, runs large multicentre clinical trials, takes part in trials of
national and international collaborative trial groups and contributes
expertise to trials run by others.
It also undertakes research into trial methods and reviews evidence from completed trials. For groups wanting to run their own trials, the CTC will advise on trial design or operation, randomise patients or analyse data.
The CTC offers placements for postgraduate students, trains its own staff and runs short courses in the design and conduct of clinical trials as part of its undertaking to train people for Australian medical research.
The CTC was established in 1988 as a research unit of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). It is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney.
Core funding is provided by the NHMRC and specific trial projects are funded by a variety of external bodies, including government, public and private institutions and the pharmaceutical industry.
The CTC's mission is to achieve best practice in health care and improve outcomes in Australia and internationally through the use of clinical trials research.
The CTC is on the Mallett Street campus of the University of Sydney, in Camperdown in inner Sydney.
