Becoming an author
Cochrane systematic reviews are up to date
summaries of the effects of healthcare interventions. Systematic
reviews in breast cancer cover a range of topics including early
detection, treatment throughout the various stages of disease, and
the impact of the disease on individuals and families through exploration
of psychosocial outcomes and quality of life issues. All Cochrane
reviews which are relevant to breast cancer are conducted through
the Cochrane Breast Cancer Group (CBCG).
Systematic reviews by their nature 'systematically'
search for evidence, predominantly from randomised controlled trials
(RCTs). Some reviews may include other forms of evidence such as
cohort studies and case control studies if there is a lack of RCTs,
and if the information obtained from these study types would enhance
the review. Research into breast cancer is being done by many groups
around the world and systematic reviews are a valuable way of synthesising
all of this information which is then made accessible via The
Cochrane Library .
To become an author of a breast cancer
review, you should firstly complete a membership
form and submit it to the CBCG Cochrane@ctc.usyd.edu.au
which will register your details and your wish to conduct a review.
If you already have a review question in mind, you should also complete
a submission of question
form.
The Cochrane Breast Cancer reviewer
package and information about conducting a review provides a
detailed explanation of the process involved and provides links
to a number of valuable resources for authors. The members of the
CBCG will support you through the review process and can assist
you with various tasks such as searching the specialised
register .
