PERINATAL TRIALS REPORT PT0547 Prediction of normal vaginal delivery
Plain Language Summary: We have developed an antenatal test predicting the likelihood of normal vaginal delivery in low-risk nulliparous women at 36-38 weeks gestation. This test has a R2=0.33 and a discriminative ability c=0.85. With the help of the STEP unit (Prof.Les Irwig) at Usyd we intend to test the model in a pilot multicentre RCT. Women with a poor test result (<= 20th centile) are randomized to disclosure/nondisclosure. Disclosure involves handing over of a decision aid offering elective caesarean section at 39 weeks gestation. Women will be followed up at 3 months and 2 years after childbirth.
Trial status: Open to accrual
Date trial opened to accrual: May 2005
Expected accrual period: 24 months
Trial Objective: Randomized controlled trial of the effect of test disclosure of a novel antenatal test determining the likelihood of normal vaginal delivery.
Type of administration: Multi-centre national
