PERINATAL TRIALS REPORT PT0541 The non-thermoregulatory effects of incubator humidity on preterm infants
Plain Language Summary: Humidification in the incubator is used routinely in many neonatal units to prevent fluid balance and thermoregulatory problems. However there is limited clinical trials to show the benefits or the potential adverse effects. There is no trial to determine what is the optimal level or duration of humidification. This randomised control trial aims to determine the optimal humidification level (ie ambient vs 65% vs 85%) and duration (1 or 2 weeks) with the least documented adverse events (sepsis, electrolyte imbalance, PDA, IVH, BPD, skin integrity, transepidermal water loss).
Trial status: In development
Trial Objective: To evaluate the effects of varying levels and duration of humidity in the incubator on the preterm infants.
Type of administration: Single centre
