PERINATAL TRIALS REPORT PT0426 ACTOTTAB Twins: Timing of birth at Term
Plain Language Summary: The aims of this trial is to assess whether a policy of elective birth at 37 weeks gestation compared with a policy of expectant management in women with a twin pregnancy affects the risks of perinatal death and the risk of serious complications for the infant. When allocated to the Elective Delivery Group will undergo elective birth from 37 weeks gestation either by induction of labour or caesarean section (as assessed by the women and her obstetrician). Women allocated to the Expectant Management Group will await the spontaneous onset of labour where there is a plan for vaginal birth. Where caesarean section is preferred mode of birth, this will be conducted from 39 weeks.

Trial Objective: The specific aims of this trial are to assess whether a policy of elective birth at 37 weeks gestation compared with a policy of expectant management in women with a twin pregnancy affects 1. the risk of perinatal death (still birth or neonatal death); and 2. the risk of serious complications for the infant
