PERINATAL TRIALS REPORT

PTO389

Neonatal Inhaled Pentoxifylline for early and delayed treatment of chronic lung disease (NIP study)

Plain Language Summary:

The study aims to determine if pentoxifylline can decrease inflammation associated with chronic lung disease and decrease the number of days the infant requires supplementary oxygen. Babies aged between 7-14 days and born <30 weeks gestation and babies after 28 days can enter the study if they require >30% oxygen. The effect of pentoxifylline on the number of days requiring oxygen, the growth of the infant and the long developmental outcome will be determined.

Trial status:                         In development

Trial Objective:

* To determine if pentoxifylline is effective in the treatment of early and established chronic lung disease in a randomised controlled trial.
