Evaluating the impact of a patient decision-support tool on the choice of birth after caesarian section

 

Plain Language Summary:      

The study will evaluate the effect of an information tool for pregnant women who have already experienced a caesarian section. For these women, a decision must be made on whether to attempt a vaginal birth or have a repeat caesarian section with their subsequent pregnancy. It is anticipated that this took will enable women to make an informed decision on the type of childbirth they want. The tool uses a decision-support model to help women work through the decision process. It may assist all women to participate more effectively in a decision partnership with the doctor and midwife.

* Evaluate the effect of a tailored decision-support tool on women's choice for birth after caesarian.
* Determine the extent to which decisional conflict is reduced and if decisions about birth are more informed.
