Trial of nicotine patches with counselling versus counselling alone as smoking cessation strategies in pregnant women.

 

Plain Language Summary:      The trial aims to recruit pregnant women still smoking in the second trimester, and smoking 10 or more cigarettes per day. Enrolment occurs at their second antenatal visit, giving opportunity for drug-free cessation before possible entry to the treatment arm of the study and use of nicotine patches.

Trial Objective:

To determine whether the addition of nicotine patch therapy to a brief counselling intervention will result in enhanced smoking cessation rates.
