PERINATAL TRIALS REPORT PT0348 The influence of acupuncture on the induction of labour for women with a post date pregnancy: a randomised controlled trial.
Plain Language Summary: A randomised controlled trial is being conducted to determine whether acupuncture is an effective method of induction. Women will be randomly allocated into either an acupuncture group or sham acupuncture group. The intervention will last 1hr over a 2 day period if necessary, 24 hours prior to the planned induction. If labour (measured by regular contractions & cervical change) has not been established after a second period of acupuncture, the induction will be considered unsuccessful and medical/chemical induction will begin.

Trial Objective: 1. To investigate whether acupuncture for induction of labour offers women an effective method of induction with minimal side effects. 2. To investigate whether acupuncture for induction of labour may be a cost effective intervention.
